City Elections
City/School Election
The 2025 City/School Election will be held on November 4, 2025. The City of Marshalltown will have open seats for Mayor, 1st Ward Councilor, 3rd Ward Councilor, and two At-Large Councilors for the term 01/01/26 - 12/31/29. Interested candidates must file completed paperwork with the Marshall County Auditor, Marshall County Courthouse, 1 E Main Street, Marshalltown. The filing period begins Monday, August 25, 2025, and closes Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 5:00 pm.
Candidates must complete an Affidavit of Candidacy and Nomination Petition. There is a minimum number of 75 signatures from signers residing within the ward you are running for. There is a minimum number of 75 signatures from signers residing within the city limits if running At Large. It is recommended extra signatures are received in case any are deemed invalid. Candidacy paperwork is available in the vestibule at City Hall, 24 N Center Street, the Marshall County Auditor's Office or you may print from the links provided below.

Candidate Qualifications:
- A candidate must be an eligible elector in the city and ward at the time of filing nomination papers and at the time of the election.
- Must meet all the requirements to register to vote but does not have to be registered to vote.
- A citizen of the United States.
- A resident of Iowa.
- At least 18 years old.
- May not be a convicted felon (unless voting rights have been restored).
- May not currently be judged incompetent to vote by a court.
- May not claim the right to vote in any other place.
Polls will be open on November 4, 2025, from 7 am to 8 pm for voting. Poll locations will be the same as in the general election.
