REQUEST FOR LETTERS OF INTEREST FOR APPOINTMENT TO 3RD WARD CITY COUNCIL VACANCY
The City of Marshalltown is accepting letters of interest from 3rd Ward residents interested in filling a vacancy by appointment for the City Council seat. The term will be temporary, serving from 8/28/23-9/24/23. This vacancy will be on the special election ballot on September 12, 2023.
Letters of interest should be addressed to Mayor Joel Greer and sent via email to clerk@marshalltown-ia.gov or mailed or delivered to City Hall, 24 N Center Street, Marshalltown, IA 50158. Please identify your name and address, and why you are interested in the 3rd Ward City Council appointment. All letters of interest must be received no later than 4:00 PM on August 10, 2023. The City Council will then conduct interviews of those interested in the appointment on August 14, 2023, at the regular City Council meeting. The council will approve a resolution making an appointment at this meeting.
Any 3rd Ward resident will have the opportunity to file an Affidavit of Candidacy and Nomination Petition to fill the remainder of the term through 12/31/25. You do not need to participate in the appointment process to run for this seat. Candidacy paperwork must be filed with the Marshall County Auditor’s Office at the Courthouse by Friday, August 18, 2023, at 5:00 pm. Filing paperwork is available on the city website https://www.marshalltown-ia.gov/758/City-Elections or printed in the vestibule at City Hall, 24 N Center Street, Marshalltown, IA 50158.
