Summer Blast Day Camp
Due to the August 10 storm and needed cleanup, Summer Blast has ended. Thank you for your participation throughout the summer of 2020!

Summer Blast was displaced from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum since the tornado on July 19, 2018.
Summer Blast began June 8th, 2020. There is limited capacity due to Covid-19.
Parents should fill out the required registration form and submit to the Parks and Rec office but no payment will be taken at this time. Parents will be notified in the order as the completed registration form was received when there is availability. Summer Blast will not be accepting DHS Childcare Assistance.
Summer Blast is lead by experiences staff and available for youth entering grades 1 through 6. See the Summer Blast Day Camp Family/Parent Handbook with important details to know.
Things to bring/have at camp:
- Proper swim attire & towel (Tuesday/Thursday swimming)
- Spray sunscreen clearly labeled with the child’s name
- Water Bottle
- Lunch (if not wanting lunch provided by the school)
- Tennis shoes (with socks) -- no dress shoes or flip flops.
Due to Covid-19, some activities listed below will not happen in 2020. Staff are working hard to make the atmosphere as normal as possible.
Participants will be with friends and make new friends, experience fun activities and have interesting opportunities. Morning activities will include visits to a park Monday & Friday mornings, visits to the library Thursday mornings, arts, crafts, playing games, character education and free time to read. Afternoons are filled with swimming at the Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Out of town Special Activity trips are each Wednesday - departure and return times vary. Participants will have a blast! Parents give this program great reviews!
Lunches in the summer are provided by the Marshalltown Community School District. Lunch is provided on site at 11:00 a.m. daily and packed lunches are provided for Wednesday trips. If the camper brings a lunch, please remember there is no refrigeration available for lunches, so please plan accordingly.

Register early to ensure space for each specific week camp is needed. When maximum enrollment is reached for any week no additional enrollment will be accepted for that week. Participants may be added to a wait list for future enrollment if an opening becomes available. When a camper is unable to participate in a week previously enrolled, a cancellation notice must be received at the Parks and Recreation office prior to the start of that week. No credit or refund will be granted once that week has begin.
- Days: Monday through Friday (no daily or partial week option)
- Dates: June 8 to August 14 (no camp Friday, July 3)
- Times: 7:45 am to 5:00 pm
- Early Drop-Off: 6:45 to 7:45 am, with a $5 weekly fee
- Location: Community Building (Riverview Park)
- Cost: $85 per week per child (includes a t-shirt)
Purchase of an Aquatic Center season pass, provides a $10 discount each weekNo pool passes will be sold this year.
- Pick up Time: 5:00 pm (to avoid a $5 late pick-up fee)
- Late Pick-up: Late pick-up requires special advanced arrangements of staff. Any child picked up after 5:15 pm will result in a $5 charge for every 15 minutes thereafter.
- Late fee: To avoid a $10 late payment fee, weekly fees (including any late pick-up fees) payment is required by Thursday of the preceding week attending.
Aquatic Center Season Pool Pass Discount -
When a Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center season pass is purchased, receive a $10 discount per week per child from the weekly Summer Blast enrollment fee. No pool passes will be sold this year.
Optional Swim Lessons
Swim Lessons - 2020 Swim Lessons will be different, at this time swim lessons times have not been decided.
Summer Blast will transport participants to and from swim lessons. Swim Lesson cost during Summer Blast is $50, which includes an $8 transportation fee. A Summer Blast staff member remains at the aquatic center during the lesson. Please indicate the most appropriate swim lesson level when enrolling a child in a swim lesson. Class sizes are limited so enroll early to ensure available space.
