Communications Training Operator Program

The Marshall County/Marshalltown Communication Center is dedicated to providing quality training to newly hired operators. The department has certified training officers to guide you through the ins and outs of this career through a 21-week training program. All new operators will be required to attend the Telecommunicator Basic 40-hour School at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as part of the training program.

Probationary Period & Shift Schedules

Communications operators serve a one year probationary period upon initial employment. A regular work week consists of three twelve hour workdays and one four hour workday totaling 40 hours per week.

The current shifts are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. During the training period, operators will work on multiple shifts and training may occur on an eight hour shift rotation rather than the normal twelve hour shift rotation.
