The City of Marshalltown has opened the Veterans Memorial Coliseum as a warming shelter today, Friday, January 23, 2026, to provide a safe, warm space for community members during extreme cold conditions.
The Veterans Memorial Coliseum, located at 20 W. State Street, will be open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. today. Individuals seeking relief from the cold are encouraged to utilize the facility during these hours.
In addition, the Marshalltown Public Library remains open during its regular business hours today and is also available as a warm, welcoming space for residents.
Free Public Transit to Warming Shelter
Marshalltown Municipal Transit will be operating fixed routes only today and will provide free rides to and from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum during the following times:
Free rides available: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
North AM and South AM Routes: 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
Blue, Green, Red, and Orange Routes: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
