On Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:13pm, the Marshalltown Police Department responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress at 408 East Linn Street. When the first officer arrived on scene, he saw the suspect exiting the garage carrying property. The suspect dropped the property and fled on foot. Following a short foot chase, the suspect was caught and apprehended. A further investigation revealed the suspect, Matthew Allen Sumpter, age 39, of Marshalltown had no permission to be in the garage.
Mr. Sumpter has been charged with:
- Burglary –3rd Degree
- Interference with Official Acts
Mr. Sumpter was transported to the Marshall County Jail where he bonded out on his charges.
