News Release For Immediate Release:
Effective immediately all open burning in the City of Marshalltown, in conjunction with advice provided by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, is banned. With the “green” condition of the wood, burning it causes more smoke than dry wood. Additionally, we are beginning to receive complaints of smoke from burning tree waste. With so many residents still without power and the need to leave windows open for cooling purposes, smoke is entering homes and making it difficult for many to breathe. The City of Marshalltown has made a request to the State of Iowa for assistance in providing chipping and grinding equipment to handle a large amount of tree debris.
