[ARCHIVED] MPD Recognizes Officers for Distinguished Service

The Marshalltown Police Department is excited to announce the following officers will be receiving the department’s Distinguished Service Award.  On Monday, July 9, at 5:30 p.m., the Marshalltown City Council will formally recognize these officers for this accomplishment.

Officer Chad Hillers

Officer Hillers recently completed an assignment as a narcotics investigator.  Officer Hillers spent nearly six years working in this assignment.  He was involved in the successful investigation and prosecution of several high profile and important drug cases.  Officer Hillers has distinguished himself as an expert in the field of drug investigations.  He also serves the department as a tactical officer, firearms instructor and training officer.  Through his service as a drug crimes investigator, our community is a safer place to live, work and play.  Officer Hillers has been an instrumental force in the efforts to combat drug trafficking in our community.  Officer Hillers continues to serve the Marshalltown community with pride and professionalism.

Officer Randall Kessler

Officer Kessler recently completed an assignment working in the criminal investigations unit as a general crimes investigator.  Officer Kessler worked in this role for over eleven years.  Officer Kessler specialized in the areas of computer related crimes and crimes against children.  Officer Kessler represented the department on a statewide task force responsible for the investigation of computer crimes and crimes against children.  Officer Kessler successfully worked multiple cases that were subsequently prosecuted at the federal level.  Officer Kessler has also been part of an investigative team that successfully investigated numerous high profile crimes in Marshalltown over the past 11 years.  Officer Kessler has established himself as an expert in the areas of computer related crimes involving child pornography offenses.  As a direct result of his work, several violent offenders have been held accountable for their criminal actions.  Thanks to his professional service, our community is a safer place to call home.

Sergeant Sadie Weekley

Sergeant Weekley recently completed a nine year assignment working in the criminal investigations unit.  Sergeant Weekley specialized in the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault investigation.  Sgt. Weekley has established herself as an expert in these fields.  Peers recognize her across the State of Iowa for her work.  Sgt. Weekley has utilized this expertise to serve as a guest instructor at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.  Sgt. Weekley has also been instrumental in revamping how the Marshalltown Police Department responds to, and investigates, crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Thanks directly to her commitment to excellence and hard work, our community is safer and our police department is more effective in dealing with crimes against women and children.

Chief Tupper stated, “Our community is blessed to have exceptional people serving in our police department.”  “These officers have been outstanding ambassadors for our department and they have made a positive difference in our community.”  “We are proud of their work and their service.”  “We also owe them a debt of gratitude for all that they have accomplished.”

The police department looks forward to recognizing these officers on July 9.
