The Marshalltown Police Department, in partnership with, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #2, will be joining law enforcement agencies across Iowa, and the nation, to support National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The FOP Lodge #2 has converted the traditional Marshalltown Police Department patch to pink to raise awareness and be supportive of those battling breast cancer.
Nationally, those who are diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer have a 98% survival rate after 5 years, Stage 2 a 90% survival rate and Stage 3 a 66% survival rate. The Marshalltown Police Department FOP Lodge #2 recognizes that without a continued effort to help find, a cure and get advanced screening, these rates could change drastically, and for the worse. Breast cancer has affected many, including our own law enforcement family, and we want to help make a difference.
We have joined The Pink Patch Project, a movement started in California by public service agencies that has moved across the nation. Participating agencies have their patches made with pink details to bring awareness to the disease and the fight for a cure. These patches are then worn by officers and sold to those who want to help. The FOP Lodge #2 will be selling the MPD patch for $10.00 throughout the month of October or while supplies last. All profits from this project will be donated to the Susan G. Komen of Greater Iowa.
