The medians on Highway 14/South Center Street are new and should be a point of pride, but right now, for reasons beyond our control, they are definitely not. The City had planned Wednesday, August 12th, for a joint effort of Street and Parks personnel to tackle the weeding, but Mother Nature had some different plans with the August 10th derecho and 100+ mile per hour winds. All staff has been dedicated to the debris clean-up and removal since August 10th, which became the top priority and continues to be our top priority.
We are planning to use Parks staff and Engineering staff on Thursday, September 3rd, to start the weeding with the traffic safety we need in place. This will be fewer helping hands, so please be patient as we get to work. Barring future disaster events, the medians will be bright and weed-free and something we can all be proud of!
Thank you to the number of people who have volunteered! I think that says a lot about the spirit of our community! While your offers are appreciated, this will occur in a risky environment as the street will not be closed to traffic, so we won’t be using volunteers.
