The City of Marshalltown is conducting visual assessments of the damage to structures citywide this week. Staff will be classifying the damage level based on the FEMA damage ranking system. Properties that are identified as having major damage or a destroyed status may be subject to placarding by the City of Marshalltown. The notice will direct owners to contact the Building Official with a corrective plan of action which may include demolition or repair. We understand that many owners are still working with insurance adjusters in determining a plan of action, so it is important to communicate with the Housing & Community Development Department on the status of the property. Owners who do not respond by September 15, 2020 with a plan or have not secured the appropriate permits may be subject to further action.
