The City Council meeting on Monday, June 8th, at 5:30 PM, will be made available to the public through a GoToMeeting phone number/web link, along with radio and cable tv broadcast. At this time, City Council Chambers will continue to be closed to the public to attend a meeting in-person. Although the Governor lifted restrictions to allow for mass gatherings, the requirement for six feet of social distancing has drastically reduced the seating capacity in City Council Chambers to 23 seats to accommodate staff, consultants/project managers, the public, and the media. "Given the attendance we were having prior to COVID-19, I do not believe we can provide equal access to all who would come to City Council Chambers," said Mayor Greer. "It is best to continue to provide equal access to all citizens through the many platforms we have available."
Monday’s Council meeting will mark the return of most City Council members as well as bringing staff back into Council Chambers as well. Things will look different though. In order to properly social distance the City’s elected officials, a new seating arrangement has been created, which creates a second tier of seating. There is also a new camera to be installed, which will allow the City to stream the meetings live on www.marshalltown-ia.gov in the future.
