On November 24, 2019 at 2:53 pm, the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 308 N. 13th Avenue on a reported house fire. Neighbors reported the fire after seeing smoke coming from the building. Enroute dispatch advised responding crews that the neighbors had knocked on the door, but no one answered. On arrival neighbors advised that they had spoken with the family and no one was home. Crews forced entry, found fire in the kitchen area of the home, and quickly extinguished it. Smoke damage was noted throughout the structure. Crews rescued and resuscitated one dog, which was transported to the animal hospital for treatment. The family, however, lost two dogs, a cat, and a rabbit in the fire. No injuries were reported and at the time of this release, investigators were still on scene. Damage is estimated at $3,500.
