The fundraising is not yet complete, but in a special meeting on Wednesday evening, the Marshalltown City Council voted unanimously to put the renovation of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum out to bid. The September 9th Council meeting will have the required resolutions to start the bidding process, with bids to be due on October 15th. This means the Council will be able to take action on a bid at the October 28th City Council meeting.
The renovation project, which had been in the planning phases since 2017, was delayed with damage to the 90 year old facility caused by the July 2018 tornado. While the timeline for renovation was delayed, work was completed on the building which now is not part of the project. This also resulted in the City receiving almost $2 million in insurance proceeds to move the $3.6 million renovation along much quicker.
Donations are still be accepted to achieve the $1.35 million fundraising goal. To donate, visit www.mtwoncoliseum.com or send checks to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fund, 24 North Center Street, Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.
