The Community Foundation of Marshall County announced its first awards from the Rebuild Marshalltown Fund this week, and the Veterans Memorial Coliseum was one of two projects receiving funding. The $100,000 grant goes towards the $1.35 million fundraising goal for a renovation of the facility. The renovation, which was planned in advance of the tornado, will convert the existing space into two-full sized gyms with multiple flex spaces and accessible through a new ADA entrance on the west side of the building. The total project cost is estimated at $3.6 million. "We are so grateful to the Community Foundation for this gift. $100,000 is a significant amount of money, and we recognize how lucky and special this project is to receive a grant of that size," said Jessica Kinser, City Administrator. "We still have a long ways to go to get to $1.35 million, but every little bit helps."
The Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fund is still accepting donations as part of a $400,000 Challenge Grant from the Martha Ellen Tye Foundation. Donations can be made online at www.mtowncoliseum.com or by sending a contribution to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fund, 24 N. Center Street, Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.
