[ARCHIVED] Coliseum Renovation Project Receives $100,000 Rebuild Marshalltown Grant

The Community Foundation of Marshall County announced its first awards from the Rebuild Marshalltown Fund this week, and the Veterans Memorial Coliseum was one of two projects receiving funding.  The $100,000 grant goes towards the $1.35 million fundraising goal for a renovation of the facility.  The renovation, which was planned in advance of the tornado, will convert the existing space into two-full sized gyms with multiple flex spaces and accessible through a new ADA entrance on the west side of the building.  The total project cost is estimated at $3.6 million.  "We are so grateful to the Community Foundation for this gift.  $100,000 is a significant amount of money, and we recognize how lucky and special this project is to receive a grant of that size," said Jessica Kinser, City Administrator.  "We still have a long ways to go to get to $1.35 million, but every little bit helps."

The Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fund is still accepting donations as part of a $400,000 Challenge Grant from the Martha Ellen Tye Foundation.  Donations can be made online at www.mtowncoliseum.com or by sending a contribution to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum Fund, 24 N. Center Street, Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.

The Rebuild Marshalltown Fund was established shortly after the catastrophic tornado on July 19, 2018, and has received contributions from more than 240 donors from 24 states.  The Rebuild Marshalltown Fund will have additional granting periods on July 1st and October 1st.  Contributions to the Rebuild Marshalltown Fund can be made online at www.cfmarshallco.org/rebuild-marshalltown-fund/ or checks can be mailed to the Community Foundation of Marshall County, 11 N. First Ave., Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.

The mission of the Community Foundation of Marshall County is to improve the quality of life in Marshall County by building charitable endowments and by addressing critical needs of our communities in partnership with nonprofit organizations and donors. The Community Foundation of Marshall County is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, a community foundation that is confirmed in compliance with National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations.
