On January 9, 2018 at 0059 hours, the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 908 S. 2nd Ave. on a reported house fire. On arrival MFD personnel found smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Crews made entry into the home and found fire in a corner of the living room and quickly extinguished the fire. Upon removal of a section of wall above the fire area, it was determined the fire had extended up the wall and into the attic. Sections of the ceiling were removed and the fire extinguished. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire, however, some remodeling was underway on the inside. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $15,000. The fire is currently under investigation.
