The IRS tax telephone scam is making the rounds in community. On January 9, 2018, the police department received a report from a concerned citizen who received two of these calls on January 8. Caller ID information displayed 914.331.3362 as the purported number of the perpetrator making the calls. The IRS is NOT making these calls.
These are criminal efforts to steal identity or financial information from you. These efforts are also attempts to coerce financial payments from you. These telephone crimes often target elderly people so pass the word to your family, friends and neighbors about these ongoing telephone fraud schemes. Please remember to just hang up when you receive these calls. Do not ever give out personal or financial information to anyone over the telephone unless you initiated the call and you are absolutely certain you know who the person on the other end of the call is. Call the police if you think you have been the victim of a financial or identity theft crime.
