Due to the election of Second Ward Councilor Joel T.S. Greer as Mayor, effective January 1, 2018, there is a vacancy on the council for representation of the second ward.
The city council meets regularly twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Monday evenings beginning at 5:30 pm, with additional meetings as necessary, such as for determining the city's tax rate.
Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest to the City Administrator, Jessica Kinser, by email jkinser@marshalltown-ia.gov or by mailing or dropping off their letter prior to the deadline, 5 pm Thursday, December 28, 2017.

PUBLIC NOTICE
All members of the electorate of the City of Marshalltown are hereby notified of the vacancy on the City Council due to the election of Joel T.S. Greer as Mayor. Joel T.S. Greer was elected to the Marshalltown City Council as Ward 2 representative.
Notice is further given that the Marshalltown City Council intends to fill the vacancy by appointment. The appointment will be made at a special meeting of the City Council on January 8, 2018, at 5:30 PM and the appointee will serve until the next municipal election. However, the electors of the City of Marshalltown have the right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by a special election. This petition must be filed in the office of the Marshalltown City Clerk, Municipal Building, 24 North Center Street, Marshalltown, Iowa, 50158. The petition must be signed by at least 1,000 members of the electorate or at least the number of signatures equal to 15% of the voters who voted for candidates for the vacant office at the preceding regular election at which the office was on the ballot, whichever is fewer. This petition must be filed no later than 14 days after publication of this notice or 14 days after the appointment is made, whichever is later.
Joel T.S. Greer was elected to represent individuals residing in Ward 2. Therefore, any member residing in Ward 2 of the Marshalltown electorate may complete an application to fill this unexpired term through the Office of the Marshalltown City Clerk.
