[ARCHIVED] Retired Police K-9 Jordy

Marshalltown Police Badge

It is with a deep sadness that the members of the Marshalltown Police Department announce the passing of retired Police K-9 Jordy on December 11, 2025. Jordy was 12 years old. He was a devoted and active member of the Marshalltown Police force from 2014 until his retirement in December 2020. Jordy was led during his time of service by Lieutenant Tom Watson.

Born in Slovakia, K-9 Jordy, a German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois cross, received his formal K-9 training at the St. Paul Police Department Canine Training Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. K-9 Jordy successfully aided the Marshalltown Police Department in narcotics detection, tracking, officer protection, and evidence recovery throughout his 7-year career.

During Jordy's tenure with our agency, he had a profound impact on the success of the Marshalltown Police Department's K-9 program. During his career, he assisted with multiple arrests and located numerous critical pieces of evidence for prosecuting crimes in our area. Some of Jordy’s most notable cases involved the recovery of money stolen from a local convenience store robbery, a weapon, a facemask, and a suspect from a local restaurant robbery, and two firearms discarded in the snow from a stolen motor vehicle. In 2015, Jordy received a regional award for "Patrol Case of the Year" for the recovery of the firearms in the stolen motor vehicle case. Among his honors, Jordy placed among the top K-9 dogs in the region in narcotics detection, evidence searching, obedience, and overall agility. Jordy placed 1st overall in K-9 obedience in 2016 and 1st overall in narcotics detection, and was a member of the 1st place narcotics detection team in 2017 at the United States Police Canine Association regional canine trials.

The Marshalltown Police Department would like to extend its eternal gratitude to those members of our community who have supported our K-9 program. A special thank you to Marshalltown Animal Clinic for Jordy’s ongoing veterinary care and Theissen’s for their continuing food donations to the Marshalltown Canine Unit. An extra special thank you to Head Trainer Melinda Ruopp for all her hard work and dedication to Jordy’s career and the Marshall County canine program, and Captain Kiel Stevenson for being one of Jordy’s favorite chew toys (a.k.a. training aids) throughout the years. K-9 Jordy has honorably served with the Marshalltown Police Department and will be missed!
