On Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 5:45am, public safety personnel responded to the area of North 12th Avenue and Bromley Street in Marshalltown for a medical emergency. The Marshall County 911 Communications Center received a call about a person found in the roadway on North 12th Avenue with serious injuries. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found an unresponsive, adult male, in the roadway. The male had visible traumatic injuries. Immediate medical care was provided to the injured male. The male was subsequently transported to the Marshalltown hospital and was later transferred to a medical facility in Des Moines. The male died. The male has been identified as Ezra Oliver Seymour, age 23, of Tama.
Following an exhaustive search for information and evidence, law enforcement arrested two people in connection with this death investigation. Both arrests were made during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 1, 2024.
Trequan Merez Cosgrove, age 25, of Marshalltown has been charged with Murder in the First Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Mr. Cosgrove is being held in the Marshall County Jail.

Jaimee Yajaira Alcaraz-Gutierrez, age 26, of Marshalltown has been charged with Accessory after the fact. Ms. Alcaraz-Gutierrez is being held in the Marshall County Jail.

The Marshalltown Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, are jointly conducting this murder investigation. This investigation remains active. The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted at the August 31 incident scene investigation by the Marshall County 911 Communications Center, Marshalltown Fire Department, and the Unity Point Ambulance Service. The Marshall County Attorney’s Office is also assisting with this investigation.
