On December 4, 2023, at 9:03am, officers and medical personnel were dispatched to the 200 Block of North 1st Avenue in Marshalltown for a reported assault. A 30-year-old female reported a male came to her residence and began assaulting her with a bat, striking her in the arms and head. A 75-year-old male bystander who witnessed the assault, intervened and then was also struck with the bat in the arm. The female victim was transported to the Unity Point Emergency Room by ambulance and has since by released.
During the investigation into this crime a suspect was developed. On December 5, 2023, officers and detectives from the Marshalltown Police Department executed a search warrant at 549 North 3rd Street in Marshalltown and the suspect was located and taken into custody.
Ktwo Esa, age 20, of Marshalltown was arrested for the below listed criminal offenses:
- Attempt to Commit Murder (Class B Felony)
- Willful Injury - 2 Counts (Class D Felony)
The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted by the Marshalltown Fire Department and Unity Point EMS during this incident.
