For Immediate Release
In 2017, the Iowa Legislature passed a law legalizing the sale and use of fireworks. The law prohibited cities from banning sales of fireworks but allowed, if determined to be a public safety risk, to prohibit the discharge. The City of Marshalltown, along with several other cities in the State, has prohibited the use of fireworks. Novelty fireworks, which include snakes, caps, party poppers, sparklers, paper tanks and vehicles, are allowed.
Beginning June 1, 2018 the sale of fireworks may begin from fixed building sites and on June 13, 2018 sales from temporary tent locations are allowed. Sales are allowed at these facilities through July 8, 2018. Please remember while the sale of fireworks is allowed the use or discharge, with the exception of novelty fireworks, is prohibited.
