On Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 1:55pm, members of the Marshalltown Police Department assisted staff at the Marshalltown High School with the investigation of a report involving a weapons allegation. On February 9, school officials received information about a photo depicting a student in possession of a weapon. As a precautionary measure, school officials contacted law enforcement. Law enforcement immediately responded and continues to investigate this concern.
There was never any danger to students, staff or the public. A weapon has not been located but the police investigation continues. Law enforcement has identified multiple students under the age of 18 as potential witnesses or persons of interest in this investigation. Law enforcement is not actively looking for anyone else. No arrests have been made. This investigation will continue.
The police department will continue to work with the school district to ensure the safety of all students, staff and the public. The police department maintains a close working relationship with the school district and we are confident that everything is being done to maintain a safe learning environment for all students. Today’s incident did not compromise safety for anyone. Student safety is always the number one priority.
