On Monday, May 23, 2022, at approximately 8:14pm officers were dispatched to Arnold’s Park in Marshalltown for a group of juveniles threatening each other. It was reported one of them had a gun. An officer was on scene within two minutes of receiving the call and made contact with several juveniles in the area while another officer made contact with juveniles at another location. Through many interviews it was determined that one male juvenile threatened to shoot another juvenile while pointing a gun at them. This male then fired the gun in the air. No one was injured in this incident. The gun was retrieved and the juvenile male was taken into custody and placed in juvenile detention.
The juvenile male, age 14, was charged with the following crimes:
- Assault with a dangerous weapon
- Going armed with intent
- Harassment 1st degree
- Minor armed with a dangerous weapon
- Reckless use of a firearm
