On October 31, 2021, at 4:11 am, the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 12 N. 10th Street on a reported house fire. At time of dispatch, MFD is notified people are still in the building. On MFD arrival, it was determined that all residents were out of the structures. On size-up, crews find heavy fire at the rear of a two-story multi-family residence. Fire is located on the first floor. Initial entry crew was sent to the first floor for fire attack. A second entry crew advances to the second floor to check for extension. The fire on the first floor is extinguished and crews begin overhaul operations. Hotspots were found in the ceiling between floors and extinguished. No injuries were reported and at the time of this press release, the cause is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $35,000.
