On March 11, 2021 at about 3:15 am, a Marshalltown Police Officer was checking businesses on E. Southridge when he interrupted a burglary in progress. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was captured and taken into custody.
Upon investigation, three businesses in the 100-200 blk of E. Southridge had been broken into by the suspect.
Officers arrested:
Jimmy Allen Austgen (age 52). Austgen reports a Des Moines address as his place of residence.

- Burglary 3rd degree (3 counts) Class D felony
- Criminal Mischief (3 counts)
- Possession of Burglary Tools (1 count) Aggravated misdemeanor
- Interference with Official Acts (1 count) Simple misdemeanor
Austgen was transported to the Marshall County Jail to await his initial appearance on the above charges. Austgen has a criminal history with convictions for similar crimes and is currently out on parole.
