MPD Announces 2026 Citizen’s Police Academy
The Marshalltown Police Department is seeking community members to participate in the up-coming 2026 Citizen’s Police Academy. The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to the traditional police academy, but its students are not potential police officers.
The purpose of the Citizen’s Police Academy is to build a better understanding between citizens and the police, through education. Participants will become familiar with the operations of the Marshalltown Police Department and gain a deeper understanding of the problems the police and the community are facing. The classes will cover police procedures and community relations. Active class participation is encouraged during each session.
Participants will meet once a week during the ten-week course with the tenth week being a potluck and graduation ceremony, where family members are invited to attend. If you decide to accept this invitation, it is imperative that you commit to attend the majority of the academy classes. The success of this program depends on the commitment of its students.
The Citizen’s Police Academy will begin on March 10, 2026 at the Marshalltown Police Department, 909 South 2nd Street. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m during the entirety of the academy. There is no cost to the public to participate.
If you would like to participate, need an application, or need more information about, the 2026 Marshalltown Police Department Citizen’s Academy please contact Captain Sadie Weekley at (641) 844-1801 or sweekley@marshalltown-ia.gov.
