The Marshalltown Public Works department has declared a snow emergency for Marshalltown. The snow ordinance will go into effect overnight tonight at 3:00 AM (technically early morning of Wednesday, February 12th, 2025). Please move vehicles before then (and before going to bed).
Snow ordinance parking restrictions will remain in effect until the snow emergency is lifted. Please do not park on the Emergency Snow Routes until an official announcement goes out lifting the parking restrictions, even if the snowplow has gone by. With the current forecast of timing, there is a high probability that the snow emergency will remain in place through Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
Please remove vehicles from the designated "Emergency Snow Routes", "No Parking During Snow Removal Operations" blocks, and cul-de-sac circles prior to the snow emergency ordinance going into effect in order to help facilitate snow removal operations. The Marshalltown Police Department will ticket and tow vehicles found parked on these routes. Vehicles towed are at the owner’s expense.
More information and a map of which streets are designated as such is available on our website: Snow and Ice Control | Marshalltown, IA .
As a reminder, residents and business owners cannot remove snow from private property and push it onto public property. City ordinance 57.001 will be enforced this snow season.
Chapter 57.001 REMOVAL OF SNOW AND ICE; DEPOSITING ON PRIVATE DRIVE, PARKING SPACE OR IN FRONT OF PRIVATE PROPERTY PROHIBITED.
- The abutting property owner is required to remove all accumulations of snow and ice from public sidewalks located upon street and alley terraces and from the public sidewalks located upon his, her or their privately-owned property.
- It shall be unlawful for any person to push, pile, deposit or leave deposited any snow or frozen materials removed from any private drive or private parking area upon any public street or thoroughfare or upon or in front of the private property or the private drive of another.
While snow ordinance parking restrictions only apply to the designated Emergency Snow Routes, and the streets listed under city ordinance Chapter 77 as "No Parking During Snow Removal Operations", residents are encouraged to cease all on street parking during snow events. Your assistance with this request allows city crews the space they need to remove snow from all city streets.
Thank you!
