PRESS RELEASE: 12/26/20
At approximately 2 P.M. on December 25, 2020, the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to the 600 block of West Main Street for a structure fire. The fire was reported by a passerby. Upon the arrival of fire department personnel, a two-story duplex was found with a working fire on the front side first floor extending into the second floor. Fire Department personnel established a water supply and entered the structure for search, rescue, and fire control. All occupants escaped the building. Two dogs in the second-floor apartment did not survive the fire, but two dogs on the first floor were rescued and revived by firefighters. The displaced occupants of the building were assisted by the Red Cross. Marshalltown Police, UPH EMS, Marshalltown Public Works, and Alliant Energy assisted at the scene. Firefighters were at the scene for approximately 2 hours.
