The August 10th derecho significantly damaged the community tree canopy and work continues on assessing that damage for future removals. The City of Marshalltown is currently assessing all trees located in the terrace or right-of-way to determine if they meet one of three FEMA criteria for removal. Trees that are eligible for removal are being marked with a yellow number.
Following the assessment of all the trees, the City will issue a bid document for the removal of the trees. FEMA public assistance will help cover 85 percent of the costs of the removal. The City will also remove the stumps on a schedule in 2021 and 2022. The source of funding for the stumps is Road Use Taxes, and will be budgeted in coming years.
If you have questions about your tree or the process, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 641-754-5715.
