Growing Support for a Community Garden

Picket postcard

The City of Marshalltown’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program and the House of Compassion are partnering in a community garden which will be located on the corner of S. 3rd Street and W. Church Street in Marshalltown. The House of Compassion owns the lot and the City will be organizing the purchase of supplies and plants and recruiting volunteers to build boxes, plant and care for the gardens.

We truly want this to be a “Community” garden. We are reaching out to churches, businesses, schools and community organizations to see who would be interested in volunteering for any stage of the garden process; from planning to harvest.  We are accepting all levels of commitment, from a few hours, a few hours per day for a week to maybe the whole summer. It is up to you. Think of all ages when considering who may want to participate in this community endeavor. We are also accepting financial contributions to the garden. Sponsor a Picket for $50 and we will recognize you on our garden gate welcome sign. Click here for a donation form.

Our mission is to donate all produce to the House of Compassion to incorporate more fresh produce in their meal preparation. Any excess produce will be donated to families in need or to the local food bank.

Take pride in My Home…My Neighborhood…My Marshalltown.
