Community Garden Kick-off

Spring Is Around the Corner- Come and Join In the Fun!

The City of Marshalltown’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program and the House of Compassion are partnering in a community garden which will be located on the corner of S. 3rd Street and W. Church Street in Marshalltown. The lot is owned by the House of Compassion and the City will be organizing the purchase of supplies, plants and organizing volunteers to build, plant and care for the gardens.

Please bring a sack lunch and join us on Tuesday, February 27th from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Library for the “Kick-Off” and sign-up meeting. We are looking for groups or individuals who may want to volunteer. We aren’t asking for a whole summer of commitment. Could you give a day to help us build beds or plant the gardens? Maybe as a team building exercise you could donate a few hours three times for one week to help with weeding, watering and harvesting produce. What about a family event and teaching your children about growing their own food. Or do you just have ideas about what you would like to see the garden be?

Our mission is to donate all produce to the House of Compassion to help in their meal preparation with fresh vegetables. Any excess produce will be donated to families in need or the local food bank.

Want to give back to your community. Got the winter blues and want to think about something besides the snow and cold. Come and join in the planning of the Marshalltown Community Garden.

Take pride in My Home…My Neighborhood…My Marshalltown.
