This week kicks off a multi-day bike ride starting in Steamboat Rock on Tuesday, June 18th and ending in Marshalltown on Thursday, June 20th, as part of the Iowa River Trail Placemaking Plan. RDG Design, best known for the High Trestle Trail Bridge, is hosting events throughout the communities along the Iowa River Trail to get feedback on how the trail can be an asset in each county and community. Once completed the Placemaking Plan will include guidelines for signage and aesthetics that have a cohesive theme for both Hardin and Marshall Counties, identify signature bridges that can best draw attention to the Iowa River Trail and promote economic development, identify locations for trailheads and other trail amenities, and recommend areas for public art installations. Public celebrations will be held in Eldora on the 18th from 5-8pm at Hy-Vee and from 5-8pm on the 20th at the Marshalltown Public Library.
The Placemaking Plan has been funded with grants from the Martha Ellen Tye Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, along with contributions from the City of Marshalltown, Trails Inc., and the Hardin County Trail Commission.
