Meet the Marshalltown Police Department K9 Unit!

MPD K9 teams are required to certify annually through the United States Police Canine Association in patrol and narcotics detection.  Our K9 teams play a vital role in the detection and prevention of crime.  They are trained in obedience, evidence recovery, tracking, human scent detection, criminal apprehension, and narcotic detection.  The Marshalltown Police Department follows best practice guidelines for K9 training.  At a minimum, each K9 team participates in 16 hours of training per month in patrol skills and narcotics detection.  In addition to training, the MPD K9 Unit completes a large number of public demonstrations.  These demos are a great opportunity to educate the public on the capabilities of our K9 teams.  We are very thankful for the citizen support of this essential program.  Now, who is ready to try on the bite suit?
