With the completion of the new Police and Fire Building in early 2019, the City of Marshalltown is looking ahead with what happens to one of the buildings to be left vacant. The Police Station, located at 22 North Center Street, is officially for sale. The City is accepting Requests for Proposal for the use and the purchase of the building. This is not your typical sales process though. "We are able to use a process allowed in Iowa Code for urban renewal areas which allows the Council to consider other factors when selling the property, like what it will be used for," City Administrator Jessica Kinser explained. "The Police Station is right next to our City Hall complex, and we have a strong interest in making sure that we have good neighbors in the future."
Bids are due on September 28th at 12PM CST, with a recommendation to come to the City Council on the October 8th meeting to set a public hearing on the selected bid. The public hearing will then be held on November 12th, allowing the Council to proceed with the sale of the property.
