Posters featuring the two murals prominently featured in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum are now for sale. The 18 x 24 inch poster can be purchased for $10. The posters show pictures of the two murals painted by Marge Benoit in 1958 that were originally on each side of the stage in the Coliseum. The murals and the stage were removed as part of the renovation of the Coliseum, but not before Marshalltown Company provided the resources to take high resolution photos of the murals. Those photos were then printed onto vinyl sheets and reinstalled in the renovated gym space. "We did not have enough space on the new south wall to hang both as they were originally painted, so one is on the north wall and one is on the south wall," City Administrator Jessica Kinser shared. "We wished that we could have kept them as is, but they were painted on plaster, so there was no way to keep them. I hope the posters give everyone the memory of the murals and what they represent about Marshalltown."
Posters can be purchased and picked up at the Parks and Recreation office at 10 West State Street. For more information, please call 641-754-5715. If unable to make it to the office, arrangements for delivery can be made if in Marshalltown.
